Maria Larkman
Maria Larkman's art, Lacollage®, is about love, passion and desire. Inspired by the 50's and 60's design, magazines and movies, Larkman creates dreamlike artwork with hidden symbolism. The expression of love, beauty, lost love, and the tension between sex and longing are the sources of inspiration for her artworks.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden 1964, educated as a Graphic Designer she worked at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm for seven years. Widowed in 2001, Maria's deep loss changed her life and how she looked at the world around her. She started to work her art more consistently - focusing on life's beauty, positive themes and warm colors. Combining her passion for photography, Larkman uses posters, postcards, packaging, pin-up magazines collected from her travels across Europe including Barcelona, Nice, Venice, Paris and Lisbon.
Lacollage®, is a mixed media combination of photography and painting - often soaking the digital prints in water - preparing the images with glue, prior to painting rich layers of color and finally applying varnish to the canvas.
The Lacollage® quickly became sought after by the Stockholm galleries, which led to frequent group exhibitions and solo shows - not only across Sweden, but also in Helsinki, Oslo, Stuttgart, Maastrich, and Perth and Melbourne, Australia. Larkman has received numerous corporate commissions and has clients that include Monaco's jet-set, business entrepreneurs and notable figures from the "Rock’n Roll" Hall of Fame. Living and working at her down-town studio in Stockholm. Maria Larkman's art seeks to add beauty to life and create an awareness of the ephemeral.... to seize life and appreciate it.
